First 1L scandal of the year.
Apparently someone has dedicated almost their whole facebook profile to ripping on the school.
Now I understand that this is how people bond. Everyone can make a remark or two about the school and laugh about it with their classmates because they can all relate. They can even attempt to write a sarcastic blog about certain aspects that they would like to rant about. Obviously I do this as do many others. It's good to hear the opinions of others on their experiences but from what i've gathered this was a little different.
After overhearing some fellow classmates talking, many seemed to agree that they took it pretty far and came off downright rude. It wasn't a lighthearted remark about the elevators or even a professors hairstyle. This person belittled the school as a whole and seemed to imply that the quality of the students here is below them.
In order to protect the identity of this person, I will paraphrase certain portions:
Interests: Getting the fuck out of Brooklyn Law
Clubs and Jobs:
Member of anonymous student organization (resume boost
to get me out of BLS), The I want to get the fuck out of BLS Society
About Me:I go to a shitty law school and am aware of that fact.
I'm pretty sure I'm the smartest one here. And I am aware too of my conceit.
Whoa. I know this school isn't perfect but no school is. In fact the people here have been a pleasant surprise from all of the horror stories i've heard. I actually didn't know what to say when I saw this. It's fine that you are aiming to transfer up. You have to do what is good for you but to essentially talk down to the student body when you have yet to earn a single grade here is jumping the gun. Whatever crawled up their ass and died, they should look into removing.

On another note, we finally have a day off tomorrow. I can't decide if I should read for Friday tonight or save it for tomorrow. What I should do is think about making a dent in that memo packet at some point tomorrow. So much for days off...

I blame Brooklyn itself. It's inferority complex as Manhattan's bitch has been deservedly earned :)
hey there t.a.l.,
if it's any consolation, i think that this individual will be in for a pleasant surprise come exam time. a lot of people at BLS came here as a second choice or a fall-back. and therefore, they may begin the year with somewhat of a chip on their shoulder. but as everyone realizes come january, grades in law school are an entirely different animal. it is something you have never experienced before. you may think you know what you're talking about. you may even think you aced a final exam. but i almost guarantee you that your grades will surprise you, for better or worse.
almost everybody i know had that experience last year. you hear people saying, how did i get that B?? i aced that test! and how did i get that A? i thought i failed that test! the curve is a strange thing, and be prepared for the unexpected. if this person happens to fall on top of the curve, and he transfers out, good riddance!
personally, i found a lot of the people who transfered simply for "prestige" to be arrogant pricks. the bottom line is this: if you have the grades to transfer out (or "up", if you will), you have the grades to get the same jobs that the people at the NYU's and the Columbia's of the world will get. therefore, those who transfer "up" just want the name recognition. the only ones i respect are those who transfer to other parts of the country for whatever reason...
-some 2L
ditto, some 2L.
Now where did you see this person's profile? Facebook doesn't seem to have bls on it.
That person is really in for some pain. Truth is, BLS is NOT a bad school, and it's getting steadily better.
In fact actually, I was talking to a transfer student last week. It was pretty upsetting as she felt that she was surrounded by people who were so much smarter than she was... and all the while I'm listening to her, I know that she's going to perform better than I have since I've been here.
So there really are a whole lot of smart cookies here.
There are also a lot of dickheads. That's pretty much how it goes though.
And delete that spam. I get all excited about reading the comments only to be sorely dissappointed by awful spam.
And keep up the good work
I liked your blog, maybe you might like mine
Hee hee.
This person was on facebook using their undergrad. As of about 4PM yesterday, they deleted their entire account. I discovered this as I was about to show a friend of mine. Apparently the whole "fiasco" must have gotten back to them.
I agree there are tons of smart people here. Although anyone who is stupid enough to post the things they did in a public forum is not "the smartest person here". This person is actually a prominent member of a student group..
I'll delete the spam but it will just come up deleted message so you will still get fooled into clicking on the comments.
I definitely already read Oh Bitter Dicta. It's a well written blog and the Brooklyn blogs here were a mini inspiration for me to give this a shot.
i may defeat my anonymity by writing this, but to soothe anyone's concerns re: BLS, if you like the school, and you do well, there's no reason to transfer absent wanting to enter academia. any other career path is open to a student who does really well at BLS. in fact, friends who have transferred were unable to obtain the quantity and quality of offers that i got as a BLS student who did well. the ones to transfered for prestige are discovering, to their dismay, that being a faceless member of a more "prestigious" pack precludes admission to the top law firms.
sure, BLS has its shortcomings, but i'm enjoying most of it, and it's awfully nice not to deal with the NYU/Columbia attitude.
I feel stupid for asking this, but what is a "facebook profile?"
http://www.thefacebook.com/
I found out who it was and have to say that I'm not suprised.
I don't know any 1Ls and I'm still curious who did this!
Hey T.A.L, I just saw you responded to my post. I was trying to mimic the spam. You know, I liked your blog, I thought you'd be interested in mine. blah blah.
I hope you read OBD, after all, we read you! ;)
To 6:47: It was bound to get out and I wasn't shocked either. Since it has gotten out, I might as well add that he is a leadership position of a student group too. All so he can leave horrible BLS.
Saucy, i'm too nosey to not read OBD. It also happens to be good.
The douchebag's name is David Klass.
